NCC Awarded for Machining Learning Project and Video

Nash Community College’s Computer-Integrated Machining instructors recently attended the 6th Annual Haas Technical Education Centers (HTEC) Conference held at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, NY. HTEC is a global network and partnership between learning institutions, Haas Automation, and Haas Factory Outlets ensuring qualified learning institutes receive support to provide the highest quality Computer Numerical Control (CNC) education.

With a focus on recruitment, programs and employment, the conference allowed educators from across the globe to gather and exchange ideas and to learn from presenters. During the conference, the first annual “Best CNC Learning Project” contest was held. Required entrance criteria included: a CNC project, documentation including prints, programs, videos and photos, an outline of learning objectives for the project, student skills developed, technologies used and learned and partners engaged.

NCC Computer-Integrated Machining Instructor George Shook and Instructor and NCC Graduate Alex Barnhill entered the MAC-248 Production and Procedures Spring 2012 class project – a scale model of the Julian B. Fenner Memorial clock located on Nash Community College’s campus. NCC was one of six winners and was awarded a Haas CNC simulator valued at $1,700 for students to use in learning Haas CNC controls and simulation. As a part of the contest, Nash Community College Director of Electronic Media Andrew Small developed a video highlighting the design and production of the clock. Click here to watch the video.
