Alumni Association Spotlight: Scott Womack

Womack, SP - 3

NCC Alumnus Scott Womack

Upon graduation from Northern Nash High School (then Northern Nash Senior High), I embarked on my adult education journey at Nash Community College by enrolling in the College Transfer program. During my tenure at NCC, I received excellent instruction, as well as quality assistance from staff members that rivals any institution of higher learning. While at NCC, I completed my Associate in Arts degree in College Transfer with Honors and was humbled to be awarded the Outstanding Graduate award for the Associate in Arts in College Transfer program.

Upon completing my degree, I transferred to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where I majored in History. My time at NCC prepared me well for this endeavor; I once saw the same Biology text book in the student book store at UNC that I had at NCC. It’s hard to go wrong with an institution utilizing the same texts as those in the UNC System Universities. Upon completing my Bachelor of Arts in History in 2002 I returned to Nashville and worked as an Investigative Social Worker for the Nash County Department of Social Services. During that time, NCC honored me by featuring me on a recruiting flyer.

In 2004 I began serving with the Raleigh Police Department, starting as a patrol officer working various assignments.  At this point I longed to continue my educational journey further, and in 2007 completed my Master’s in Business Administration at Pfeiffer University.  As my career progressed I became the Crime Prevention Officer for the Raleigh Police Northwest District.  In that capacity I worked with communities and businesses to develop abstract methods to curtail crime trends, and address those issues detrimental to the safety of our community.

I currently serve as a detective with the Raleigh Police Department, specializing in intelligence, as well as serve as an instructor in the Raleigh Police Academy. I hold my General Instructor certification from the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission.  During my career, I’ve been honored with being named the Wake County Exchange Clubs Police Officer of the Year, American Legion Department of NC Police Officer of the Year, the American Legion National Police Officer of the Year, and I have an Advanced Law Enforcement Certification.  In addition to vocational responsibilities I also serve on the State Employees Credit Union Hilburn Drive Advisory Board, teach a law enforcement continuing education course I authored and am a life member of the National Eagle Scout Association. There is no doubt that the educational foundation I received at Nash Community College prepared the way for these, and many future endeavors.
