Donors Provide $174,000 in Student Scholarships

DSC_7612Each year a longer ribbon of students lines the walls of the Brown Auditorium at Nash Community College as the NCC Foundation awards its scholarships for the academic year. Beaming with pride and donning professional attire, students eagerly anticipate what the support of scholarship donors will mean for their long-term career plans. This year college administrators awarded scholarships totaling more than $174,000 to 187 students at the Thirty-Ninth Annual Scholarship Awards Program held Thursday, October 30. “To someone coming from a single parent household this makes a difference and takes stress off of my mother. I can now focus more on my dream of becoming a network security analyst and making my mark in the information technology security world,” a scholarship recipient shared with a donor.

Since its beginning in 1983, the NCC Foundation has made its mark on the community sending forth skilled employees because of the investment of local donors. More than a couple million dollars have been awarded to thousands of deserving Nash Community College students for scholarships over the years. “The kindness of the Gravely Foundation who supported me with scholarships when I was in college has never been forgotten and is deeply appreciated. Today, I ask our student scholarship recipients to always remember the gift they have been given from caring donors who have never met them, yet choose to support their dreams and goals. To the donors, I share my sincerest gratitude, and assure you that you will be remembered for your generosity in providing the gift of education which is invaluable and life changing,” NCC Foundation Executive Director Pat Ellis Daniels said.

Volunteers from the community serve on the NCC Foundation Board of Directors in order to raise the funds necessary to assist the increasing financial needs of students. NCC Foundation Board President Jake Parrott said, “Thank you to the individuals, organizations and businesses that are providing the financial resources to award these scholarships today. Through their hard work and dedication, these students have already proven that they have what it takes to succeed.”

Donors can take satisfaction from an investment in the community that provides a tangible result, and realize a significant tax and estate planning benefit.
