Detention Officer Certification Earned by Five

Students from Johnston County’s Sheriff’s Department recently completed Detention Officer training at Nash Community College. The certification includes 181 hours of training designed to equip qualified participants to function as officers in detention facilities.

Governed by the North Carolina Sheriffs’ and North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commissions, the Detention Officer Training Course instructed the five participants on basic criminal justice system information, management and supervision legalities, search and processing protocol, medical care, patrol and security behavior, key and tool handling, inmate supervision and management, suicide and crisis management, physical fitness and communication skills.
