Brenda Johnson Awarded 2014 J. Edgar and Peggie T. Moore Staff Accolade

BrendaJohnsonBrenda Johnson is the 2014 recipient of the annual J. Edgar and Peggie T. Moore Staff Award. The Moores of Rocky Mount established the award in 2004 to recognize non-instructional employees of the College for an outstanding work ethic.

As a NCC student, Johnson wore the hats of Student Government Association President, Student Government Association Vice-President, Phi Beta Lambda Historian, Full-time Lab Assistant and Part-time Lab Assistant. Johnson’s current role of Placement Test Coordinator and Library Technician is more than a job title to her; it is an opportunity to make a difference. “I always enjoy working with students, faculty and staff. During my time at Nash, I’ve learned that life is not about receiving. Life is about giving and being and I’ve tried to give and be the true meaning of blue love,” said Johnson.

The word community has dual implications for her; one being the locality she calls home and the second defined in the College’s namesake. She has seized the opportunity to achieve excellence in both. In addition to her achievements at the College, Johnson has served as Commissioner and a representative on the Oak City Mid-East Commission Board for her hometown for six years.

Johnson holds an Associate of Applied Science Degree, Business Computer Programming and Microcomputer Systems Technology, an Information Systems Technology – Cisco Systems diploma, both from Nash Community College and a Bachelor of Science Degree in History and Political Science from Fayetteville State University. In her willingness to achieve continued educational advancement she attends library related conferences and webinars, networks with the library community and colleagues, and participates in Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) professional development.

Johnson has a husband, George, and three children; one of which is currently attending Nash Community College.
