NCC Electric Line Construction Academy FAQs

When is the Electric Line Construction Academy?

The next Academy starts January 12, 2015 and runs through May 12, 2015. Potential students for the Academy can register until January 9, 2015 or until the seats are filled. There is a cap of 32 students in the class.

How long is the course?

This is a 16 week course, meets Monday-Thursday. It is not necessary to take the placement test for the 16 week Electric Line Construction Academy.

What costs are involved with attending the academy?

Tuition and fees for the Electric Line Construction Academy for the 2014-2015 is $1,249.00. Books will cost around $400.00, unless you purchase used books. Check our bookstore for prices. You will need to purchase lineman boots, safety glasses, and leather work gloves. The College supplies the climbing equipment. Scholarships may be available.

How do I apply to the academy?

Entry into the program is contingent on the completion of these documents:

  • Completion of an NCC application. Applicants may apply online at http://www.nashcc.edu/admissions
  • You must register specifically for the Electric Line Construction Academy. Since class seating is limited, you may wish to contact Vicki Currin at (252)451-8228 or Bob Schubauer at (252)451-8427 to discuss reserving your seat in the program.
  • Submission of an official high school transcript documenting graduation from high school or an official copy of GED (General Education Development) or AHSD (Adult High School Diploma) scores. To be considered official, transcripts must be unopened and received directly from the institution attended. All transcripts become property of Nash Community College and cannot be reproduced or returned to the student. Faxed copies are not considered official transcripts.
  • Completion of the ACT WorkKeys®, National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC). Students must earn a minimum of Level 3 (Bronze) in Reading for Information, Applied Mathematics, and Locating Information. Testing Centers can be located by entering your geographical location at the following website: http://www.act.org/workkeys/locations.html. Information about the NCRC can also be obtained by contacting Charlene Harrison at 252/451-8389 or charrison@nashcc.edu. You must provide NCC with your NCRC certificate ID and test scores. Email or mail your name and certificate ID number to vcurrin@nashcc.edu.
  • Review the Enrollment Expectations for entry into the Electric Line Construction Academy (contact Vicki Currin at (252)451-8228 or vcurrin@nashcc.edu for this form). Enrollees are expected to possess the personal traits, communication skills, and physical skills outlined. Sign and date the form acknowledging your understanding and recognition of these expectations. Mail the signed form to the address below.
  • Completion of a Department of Transportation physical with doctor’s notation that the physical requirements shown on the enclosed physical examination form can be performed without restriction (contact Vicki Currin at (252)451-8228 or vcurrin@nashcc.edu for this form).
