College to Host Creativity and Integrity Fair

A chance to take a peek at the ingenuity going on in classrooms at Nash Community College presents itself on Thursday, April 23 at the Creativity and Integrity Fair.  Creativity seems self-explanatory, but if you are wondering how the Fair will present integrity, Vice President for Instruction and Chief Academic Officer of the College, Dr. Trent Mohrbutter explains this fair is not just an opportunity to view what students from all curriculums are doing, but what they are doing well.

With over 25 presentations, double the amount of presenters, a creative writing poetry corner and culinary demonstrations on the schedule for this event, attendees are sure to have an engaging experience.  Diana Keel, Nash Community College student and Fair presenter, shared, “I think the Fair will give everyone in attendance a better view of what is being done in the classes that participate. It will show the fun part of classes as well as show [guests] the quality of teaching on campus and its results.” Keel will be presenting a flip book created for one of her English classes based on a literary work by Alice Walker, “The Color Purple.”

“As a new faculty member, I thought the Fair would be a great way to see what others are doing on campus, in all disciplines,” says Erika Galluppi, Nash Community College English Instructor and Co-creator of this year’s Fair.  Galluppi and others on the Fair’s planning committee devised the event as a way for instructors from all departments on campus to nominate students achieving exemplary work in their classes. Per a nomination, the selected students interested in taking part in the event, complete a registration form to present as an individual or as part of a group for a 30-minute session. The students presentations will be of an assignment already completed as part of class curriculum and chosen by their instructor as superlative. In response to her nomination, Keel stated, “I felt very surprised and honored. I started class with very little knowledge about writing and grammar because English is not my first language…and at the end, I could see how much I improved. I would never have imagined my work would be nominated.”

The Creativity and Integrity Fair will be held in the Business and Industry Center on the College’s campus from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. (floating); with new presenters every half hour. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend this event. As Galluppi states, “All students are creative and have integrity. We are all doing some real moving and shaking on campus and all departments deserve to be highlighted.” April 23 is an opportunity to come explore the achievements being made in all programs at Nash Community College and inspire future submissions for this event.
