The 100 for the 100th Year fundraising goal for the Park View Hospital (PVH) Nurses Alumnae Association concluded June 30, 2015 with a small alumnae luncheon celebrating reaching $100,000 in the PVH/NCC Scholarship Fund.

At the beginning of the centennial celebration held June 28, 2014, Association President and Founding Nursing Scholarship Chair, Martha Raynor-Price challenged alumnae and the entire Park View family to honor the hospital and the School of Nursing’s commemorative 100th anniversary by having $100,000 in the Nash Community College Park View Hospital Nurses Alumnae Scholarship Fund for student nurses by the end of the 100th year, June 30, 2015. The annual scholarship has been awarded to a second year RN candidate since 1990.

Over the past year enough funds, including interest, were deposited to slightly surpass the $100,000 figure on the above date. “A few last minute and generous contributions put us slightly over the top by including the $20,000 already awarded since 1990,” Price said. That figure can only remain for a couple weeks in July because the 2015-2016 recipient’s tuition will be deducted. We are most grateful to everyone contributing to the scholarships in any way. As the PVH family and friends can, we’d like to see the scholarship endowment “balance” reach $100,000. If we can leave $100,000 in the fund, that would be great for the perpetuity of the scholarship and legacy of the entire Park View Institution – the deceased family members and their descendants, and to honor all those left to celebrate and continue to support that “icon of an institution” we know and honor, Park View.”

Park View Hospital, the School of Nursing and the Boice-Willis Clinic were founded and opened for business July 1, 1914. The hospital closed its doors May 16, 1971 when patients were transferred to Nash General Hospital, now Nash UNC Health Care System.
