Instructional team awarded for FOCUS

DSC_0035Each year Nash Community College presents the Pride Award to honor a full-time employee or group of employees who approach their role with pride. This year’s recipient was the FOCUS team. Nash Community College established a First Year Experience program called FOCUS (Fostering Opportunity, Cultivating Unparalleled Success) in 2010 to prepare students for the transition into the demands and expectations of college and empower them to achieve greater success.  The approach for achieving these goals is through a first year seminar course, ACA 115 Success & Study Skills and ACA 122 College Transfer Success. The program has served over 2,500 students to date and is required for all degree seeking students. In recognition of FOCUS’ growth and success in impacting student learning and enhancing the student-centered culture at the College, the team of ACA and FOCUS faculty received the President’s prestigious award.
