Engineering Week, an annual event at Nash Community College, was held June 11-15th. The week was sponsored by the NCC Foundation and provided an opportunity for 17 local middle school and high school teachers and counselors to test-drive NCC Engineering courses in order to inform their students about what Nash Community College has to offer. Forty-eight teachers and counselors have participated in Engineering Week since it began in 2007.Participants attended information sessions and took part in hands-on activities in each of the following NCC departments: Electrical Lineman Technology, Computer Engineering Technology,\u00a0 Computer-Integrated Machining Technology, Electronics Engineering Technology, Welding Technology, Electrical\/Electronics Technology and Industrial Systems Technology.<\/p>\n
“I try to take every opportunity to go out into the workplace to see things so I can relay that to my students. I think you all did an excellent job and every teacher I spoke with was impressed. The workshops were intense and very hands-on,” Nash Central Middle School Teacher Mary Jo Karner said.<\/p>\n
Special thanks to New Standard Corporation and Cummins Rocky Mount Engine Plant for hosting plant tours. The tours demonstrated the change and modernization in manufacturing and how Nash Community College’s curriculum applies in the workplace. Many of the participants shared positive feedback regarding the promise the Nash County workforce has to offer.<\/p>\n
“The event shows the combined effort of three major partners in Nash County: Nash-Rocky Mount Public Schools, Nash Community College and the local business community,” said Wil van der Meulen, NCC Associate Dean of Student and Enrollment Services.<\/p>\n
