The late J. Edgar \u201cEd\u201d and Peggie T. Moore of Rocky Mount were longtime supporters of Nash Community College and their legacy will continue with the new establishment of the Moore Family Fund.<\/p>\n

The Moores\u2019 adult children, Alan and Ashley, have chosen to pay tribute to their parents’ memory by establishing the Moore Family Fund to support the NCC Ambassadors Program and the NCC Foundation Campus Mini-Grant Program.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe like the idea that we are supporting students and employees with student success being our priority,\u201d Alan Moore said. \u201cOur parents always wanted to give people opportunities to better themselves through life experiences and education.\u201d<\/p>\n

Through the Student Ambassador Program, four to six students are selected annually to represent the college. They participate in an ambassador leadership training session and serve as hosts for campus and community events. NCC ambassadors conduct campus tours, recruit students, complete service hours and share their college experiences in the community. In return, each ambassador earns a $2,000 annual scholarship.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur parents would be so pleased to know that these individuals are being provided opportunities for growth and learning beyond the classroom,\u201d Moore said. \u201cThey loved people and loved sharing their experiences in order to enrich the lives of students. They saw the potential in people and understood the importance of social etiquette and soft skills. This is a great way to encourage students as they hone their skills, build their resume, and become leaders,\u201d Moore said.<\/p>\n

The Campus Mini-Grant program provides funding for instructional and organizational needs including professional development, special projects, equipment and supplies that help advance the college\u2019s mission.<\/p>\n

Ed Moore served as a member of the NCC Board of Trustees from 1990 until 2002 with two terms as board chair. He was president of the North Carolina Association of Community College Trustees and a member of the NCC Foundation Board of Directors.<\/p>\n

Peggie Moore valued the education of the community and was a stalwart supporter of Nash Community College by promoting the activities of the college and attending college functions throughout the years.<\/p>\n

Together, the couple left their mark on education through their leadership, advocacy and financial support, which continue to make a profound impact on the college mission.<\/p>\n

“The Moores were strong ambassadors for Nash Community College, so it is fitting that this fund would support students who represent the college in such an impactful way,” said Pam Ballew, Vice President of Advancement. “They were incredibly supportive of our faculty, and the mini-grant program provides funding for innovative teaching methods and professional development.”<\/p>\n

Mr. and Mrs. Moore established the J. Edgar and Peggie T. Moore Excellence in Teaching Award and the Staff Award for full-time faculty and staff members to be honored annually for their commitment to teaching. Ed Moore said that the couple felt that exceptional teachers and dedicated staff should be rewarded for the critical role they serve in the students\u2019 educational success. In appreciation of the Moores\u2019 support, the Nash Community College Board named the promenade lobby in the Science and Technology Center as the J. Edgar and Peggie T. Moore Promenade Lobby.<\/p>\n

Additionally, the Moores established the Faculty Senate Scholarship to help students pursue their educational goals and an endowed chair to honor culinary faculty and their commitment to exemplary teaching and excellence.<\/p>\n

The Peggie Thigpen Moore Endowed Chair for Culinary Arts serves as a permanent legacy to Peggie Moore\u2019s epicurean passion. The endowment provides discretionary funds used by the Department Chair to assist with program needs.<\/p>\n

In 2018, the college announced the naming of the Peggie T. Moore Culinary Arts Wing in the College\u2019s Business & Industry Center. With Peggie\u2019s culinary passion and being a gourmet connoisseur, this perpetual honor was most befitting.<\/p>\n

Through the years, many hard-working students have benefitted from the Moores\u2019 philanthropic endeavors. And, deserving faculty and staff have been rewarded and encouraged in their efforts as they help prepare students for lifelong success.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
