Shanette Graham<\/p><\/div>\n

Nash Community College announced this week\u00a0that it has earned the 2021-2022 Military Friendly<\/span>\u00a0<\/b>School designation.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

US Navy veteran, Shanette Graham, is a student at the college. “The advisors, counselors and other students at NCC provide a family atmosphere,” Graham said. “They make it easy to communicate about classes, work, grades and planning for the future.\u201d<\/p>\n

During her eight-year enlistment, Graham held the rank of third class petty officer on the USS Theodore Roosevelt. She was deployed to Africa, Dubai and England as a\u00a0machinist mate servicing the\u00a0aircraft carrier’s\u00a0engines and other mechanical systems.<\/p>\n

Graham graduated from Barton College with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology and a minor in psychology and then began working at a pharmaceutical plant as a biologist. “I just want to keep learning,\u201d she said. Since as far back as I can remember I have always loved dealing with numbers. Although math is not one of the favorite subjects for many students, it has always been my strongest subject.”<\/p>\n

Shanette Graham is pursuing an Accounting and Finance diploma and hopes to move up the ranks in her career with the United States Postal Service.<\/p>\n

Over 1,200 schools participated in the 2021-2022 Military Friendly Schools survey with only 747 earning the distinction.<\/p>\n

“We are confident and proud of the relationships we are building with the individuals in uniform who bravely serve this country, those who served previously and the families of military veterans,” NCC Financial Aid and Veteran Services Officer Norman Cooper said.\u00a0“We are\u00a0committed to providing the highest quality support to student veterans and their families.”<\/p>\n

The College offers training opportunities for veterans, eligible National Guard\/Reservists and eligible dependents, including spouses and children, of 100 percent service-connected disabled or deceased veterans.<\/p>\n

The Military Friendly Schools evaluation included a comprehensive assessment of Nash Community College’s \u00a0ability to meet thresholds for student retention, graduation, job placement, loan repayment, persistence (degree advancement or transfer) and loan default rates for all students and, specifically, for individuals utilizing VA educational benefits.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Everyone on our campus plays a pivotal role in serving our military affiliated students,” Cooper said. “It is an honor and a privilege to serve them, especially considering the sacrifices they have made for us.”<\/p>\n
