Representatives from the Town of Nashville, Town of Nashville Parks and Recreation, and Nashville Elementary teachers and students gathered at Nash Community College for a tree planting on October 19, 2021. NCC Master Gardener Ken White planted the new Overcup Oak on the college’s campus near the Early College swings.<\/p>\n

Nash Community College has held the distinction of Tree Campus USA by the Arbor Day Foundation\u00a0for many years\u00a0for its commitment to effective urban forest management and for engaging\u00a0employees\u00a0and students in conservation goals.\u00a0The Town of Nashville has been a Tree City since 2019.<\/p>\n

The Tree Campus USA program honors colleges and universities for effective campus forest management and for engaging staff and students in conservation goals. Nash Community College achieved the title by meeting Tree Campus USA\u2019s five standards, which include maintaining a tree advisory committee, a campus tree-care plan, dedicated annual expenditures for its campus tree program, an Arbor Day observance and student service-learning project.<\/p>\n

The Arbor Day Foundation has helped campuses throughout the country plant thousands of trees, and Tree Campus USA colleges and universities invest in campus forest management. This work directly supports the Arbor Day Foundation\u2019s Time for Trees initiative \u2014 an unprecedented effort to plant 100 million trees in forests and communities and inspire five million tree planters by 2022.<\/p>\n
