The grant,\u00a0awarded to the<\/span>\u00a0North Carolina Community Colleges Foundation\u00a0<span class=\"gmail_default\">and<\/span>\u00a0North Carolina Community College System<span class=\"gmail_default\">\u00a0by\u00a0<\/span>The North Carolina GlaxoSmithKline Foundation<span class=\"gmail_default\">, will be used at\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"gmail_default\">colleges that historically have had fewer healthcare workers and amenities\u00a0and\u00a0higher nurse staffing ratios.<\/span><\/p>\n<div><span class=\"gmail_default\">With\u00a0<\/span>healthcare systems experiencing<span class=\"gmail_default\">\u00a0<\/span>nursing shortages,\u00a0<span class=\"gmail_default\">the funding will support\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"gmail_default\">improved<\/span>\u00a0educational experiences and outcomes for healthcare students, expand faculty development, growth and retention in rural community college settings and promote rural healthcare systems by better preparing students to transition into these<span class=\"gmail_default\">\u00a0c<\/span>linical settings.<span class=\"gmail_default\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Through the grant, a new position will be added at\u00a0<span class=\"gmail_default\">Nash Community College<\/span>\u00a0for a success coach to support\u00a0pre-nursing students, nursing students and allied health students<span class=\"gmail_default\">. The coach will provide\u00a0<\/span>academic, social and career supports through advising and referral to college and community resources<span class=\"gmail_default\">. The success coach will also<\/span>\u00a0support program development that directly impacts student, retention, and success.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span class=\"gmail_default\">The grant funds f<\/span>aculty\u00a0<span class=\"gmail_default\">professional development to help prepare\u00a0<\/span>nurses to become nurse educators.<span class=\"gmail_default\">\u00a0In addition to NCC,\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"gmail_default\">partnering colleges include\u00a0<\/span>Vance-Granville<span class=\"gmail_default\">,<\/span>\u00a0<wbr><\/wbr>Isothermal<span class=\"gmail_default\">,\u00a0<\/span>McDowell Technical<span class=\"gmail_default\">, Halifax and Southwestern community colleges.<\/span><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nash Community College is among several rural North Carolina community colleges to receive support\u00a0to advance its nursing education in order to\u00a0train more healthcare workers for in-demand careers.
