{"id":13881,"date":"2022-04-05T15:27:40","date_gmt":"2022-04-05T15:27:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nashccnews.com\/news\/?p=13881"},"modified":"2022-04-05T15:27:40","modified_gmt":"2022-04-05T15:27:40","slug":"ncc-celebrates-community-college-month-in-april","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nashccnews.com\/news\/2022\/04\/ncc-celebrates-community-college-month-in-april\/","title":{"rendered":"NCC Celebrates Community College Month in April"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"gmail_default\">\n<div class=\"gmail_default\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif;\">April is Community College Month and Nash Community College is celebrating! <\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"gmail_default\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif;\">Did you know a new, in-depth economic impact analysis found Nash Community College has a $86 million annual impact on the regional economy &#8211; supporting more than 1,387 or one out of every 38 jobs in Nash County?<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"gmail_default\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif;\"><br \/>\nThe impact of the increased earnings of Nash County alumni and the businesses they work for totaled\u00a0$61.9 million\u00a0in\u00a0FY 2019-20.<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"gmail_default\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n&#8220;I remain very proud\u00a0of the fact that Nash Community College has such an incredible economic impact on Nash County each year,&#8221; said Dr. Lew Hunnicutt, NCC President. &#8220;Add to that the combined effect\u00a0that all 58 community colleges have on the state, and the importance of the\u00a0Community College System in North\u00a0Carolina is hard to deny.&#8221;<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"gmail_default\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif;\"><br \/>\nThe report also assesses the economic impact of five Nash Community College programs on the area economy, the return on investment for students, and the benefits generated for N.C. taxpayers.<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"gmail_default\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif;\"><br \/>\nThe high-demand career pathways quantified in the report include jobs and programs related to\u00a0\u00a0Nursing, Advanced Manufacturing, Public Safety, Computer Information Technology and Business.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"gmail_default\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif;\"><br \/>\nNash Community College&#8217;s economic impact studies, fact sheets, and summaries can be found online at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/bigroifornc.org\/nash\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bigroifornc.org\/nash<\/a>.<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"gmail_default\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif;\"><br \/>\nWith support from the North Carolina General Assembly, leaders from the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ncaccp.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">N.C. Association of Community College Presidents<\/a>, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nccommunitycolleges.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">N.C. Community College System Office<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cpccservicescorporation.com\/enterprises\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the Center for Applied Research<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/belk-center.ced.ncsu.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">N.C. State\u2019s Belk Center for Community College Leadership and Research<\/a>, and the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/jmbendowment.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">John M. Belk Endowment<\/a>\u00a0formed to collaborate with national research leader\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.economicmodeling.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Emsi Burning Glass\u00a0<\/a>to produce a regional Economic Impact Study for each of the state\u2019s 58 community colleges, as well as an overall statewide report.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"gmail_default\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif;\"><br \/>\nThe studies found that each of North Carolina\u2019s community colleges pump millions of dollars into the regions they serve &#8211; creating jobs, wealth, and opportunities for local residents. North Carolina\u2019s 58 community colleges represent a combined $19 billion in annual impact on the state\u2019s economy and support one out of every 19 jobs in the state.<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"gmail_default\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n\u201cThe return on investment in our community colleges is unmatched &#8211; not only for students and parents, but taxpayers and our entire state economy,\u201d said N.C. Community College System President Thomas Stith. \u201cWe are proud of the contributions of our graduates and employees to enhance and strengthen our North Carolina communities.\u201d<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"gmail_default\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif;\"><br \/>\nThe economic impact study found for every dollar the state invests in North Carolina\u2019s Community Colleges, the state gains $7.50 in added incomes and social savings. The colleges generate nearly double the revenue from what they take in from the taxpayers. For every $1 the state invests, taxpayers get $1.90 back in added tax revenues and public sector savings.<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"gmail_default\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n\u201cWe\u2019re pleased the reports so clearly quantify and demonstrate the major economic impact North Carolina\u2019s 58 community colleges, faculty, students, and alumni have in each of their respective areas,\u201c said Dr. Mark Poarch, president of Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute, and the current President of the N.C. Association of Community College Presidents. \u201cOur colleges offer a big return on investment for students and employers, policymakers and taxpayers. We are grateful for the continued confidence in what we do and for continued commitment to making smart investments in our state.\u201d<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"gmail_default\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n\u201cIt\u2019s been a privilege to have worked and supported our education partners on this study from the beginning as I was confident the results would blow us away. And it did. I think it\u2019s fair to say not many government-funded programs generate more revenue than they take in from taxpayers,\u201d said State Senator Deanna Ballard, chair of the Senate Education Committee. \u201cIt\u2019s critical that our high school graduates and adults looking to gain new skills take advantage of the incredible opportunities that their local community college provides.\u201d<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"gmail_default\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif;\"><br \/>\nCommunity college graduates have higher incomes that contribute to a larger tax base and a growing state. Students who graduate with an associate\u2019s degree from a N.C. community college will see an increase in earnings of up to $7,000 or more each year compared to a person with a high school diploma or equivalent. If the student builds upon their associate\u2019s degree to then earn a bachelor\u2019s degree, their annual income also doubles on average.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"gmail_default\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n\u201cOur community colleges are among the state\u2019s most critical assets to leverage and accelerate the education and upskilling of our State\u2019s homegrown talent,\u201d said MC Belk Pilon, president and board chair of the John M.
