A student at Nash Community College\u2019s Veterinary Medical Technology program, Jenny Kapur, has won the National Association of Veterinary Technicians (NAVTA) and Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health USA Inc. tuition for the Veterinary Technicians Scholarship Program Essay Contest.<\/p>\n
The program was created to help meet the increased need for credentialed veterinary technicians in the animal health industry. Those awarded the scholarship were asked to provide a 500-word essay to address topics such as the future of veterinary technology and their contribution to the field.<\/p>\n
Kapur was one of six winners (out of 20) to receive a perfect score on their submitted essays. Essays were assessed on a scale of \u201cPoor\u201d to \u201cOutstanding\u201d using metrics like grammar, ideas, sentence structure, clarity, etc.<\/p>\n
Kapur is a second-year student and developed her passion for animals and animal health through her local volunteerism in animal rescue.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was a teacher, tutor and case manager before I discovered a new passion in veterinary science,\u201d said Kapur. \u201cBeing around the tough yet compassionate people that do the grueling work of shelter medicine, watching unwanted pets thrive in new environments, and connecting humans with animals through the adoption process has brought me a joy and fulfillment that I did not experience in other jobs.\u201d<\/p>\n
Her essay, along with others, was published in NAVTA American Journal, a national journal dedicated to practitioners in the Veterinary Technology industry.<\/p>\n
In addition to this recognition, all scholarship receipts were awarded $2,500 in tuition assistance.<\/p>\n
