A Nursing Student at Nash Community College has been honored with The DAISY Award for an Extraordinary Nursing Student. The award is part of The DAISY Foundation’s mission to express gratitude to Nurses with programs that recognize them for the extraordinary, compassionate and skillful care they provide patients and families. The DAISY Award at NCC is sponsored by ECU Health \u2013 Greenville.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe appreciate the partnership each year to honor our nursing students,\u201d said Susan Taylor, Clinical Coordinator\/Instructor of Nursing at NCC.<\/p>\n

The DAISY Foundation expanded its flagship brand The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses to Academic Institutions to recognize the faculty who inspire compassionate care in their students and the students who demonstrate it during their education.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe DAISY Award recognizes and celebrates nursing students for the above-and-beyond care and compassion they show to patients and their families,\u201d said Bonnie Barnes, CEO and Co-Founder of The DAISY Foundation. \u201cIt is a strong reminder that nursing is not all about tasks and technology.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nursing Students may be nominated by colleagues, peers, patients, families, or alumni. The award recipients are chosen by a committee at NCC to receive The DAISY Award which is presented once a year. Each Honoree receives a certificate, a DAISY Award pin and a beautiful and meaningful sculpture called A Healer\u2019s Touch, hand-carved by artists of the Shona Tribe in Zimbabwe.<\/p>\n

Said Tywana Lawson, Department Chair of Nursing at NCC, \u201cWe appreciate the opportunity to be part of this partnership with ECU Health as an ongoing reminder that nursing is not only about tasks and technology but also about human relationships; this program recognizes students for compassionate care during clinical rotations.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 2023 DAISY Award for an Extraordinary Nursing Student is Jewell Phelps. \"\"<\/p>\n

\u201cJewell has excelled academically and has received the Excellence in Nursing Award and the NCC Foundation Scholarship,\u201d said Lawson.<\/p>\n

Jewell was nominated by the NCC Daisy Committee because of her compassionate and caring nature demonstrated consistently during the two years she has been attending NCC.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe can be described as a person having genuine sympathy for others and has demonstrated sincere concern as well as showing kindness and empathy for other people\u2019s sufferings and misfortunes,\u201d said Taylor. \u201cWe are proud to bestow this award upon Jewell for demonstrating caring and compassion and her dedication to the nursing profession.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
