The NCC SkillsUSA Chapter received $14,200.<\/p>\n<p>The grant will provide resources to upgrade tools or equipment and purchase materials or supplies for students.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis grant allows us to continue to improve upon our processes and provide effective supplies for students to be successful in their learning,\u201d said Wanda Tyson, department chair of applied engineering technologies at NCC. \u201cSkillsUSA is committed to supporting the future of skilled trade.<\/p>\n<p>The grant stems from a partnership by SkillsUSA and Lowe\u2019s Home Improvement to support emerging SkillsUSA programs in career and technical education classrooms nationwide.<\/p>\n<p>In April, NCC was named one of the nation\u2019s Models of Excellence for 2023, the highest and most competitive recognition for excellence in competitions and curriculum for SkillsUSA. NCC is one of only 24 schools across the country (and the only in North Carolina) to receive the recognition.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe don\u2019t have sports teams at NCC, but we do have SkillsUSA teams, and we are very proud of them,\u201d said Dr. Lew K. Hunnicutt, president at NCC. \u201cEvery additional resource like the Lowe\u2019s Grant allows us to improve upon the great things our chapter students do and encourage us to continue to reach new heights.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Models of Excellence program promotes the intentional learning of personal, workplace and technical skills outlined in the SkillsUSA Framework for student development.
