On Monday, Aug. 12, Citi High and Early College students received a ‘Blue Love’ welcome from Team NASH, County Manager Stacie Shatzer and State Representative Allen Chesser for their first day of class. The college plans to make this an annual event.

“This is a great time for us, especially me, as I have always considered CiTi High a part of our family,” said Dr. Lew K. Hunnicutt, president of NCC. “We have already had the Early College on campus for years, and now CiTi High is here.”

The Team NASH members handed out donuts accompanied by a Welcome Tunnel of support to make their first day at an unfamiliar new reality.

“Our Eagle scholars were overjoyed with the welcome they received from NCC upon their arrival for the first day of school,” said Dr. Thomas McGeachy, principal of Nash-Rocky Mount Early College High School. “Returning scholars and first-year students alike expressed gratitude for being made to feel so welcome and appreciated!”

The move to campus has various benefits, the most significant being that now a list of programs that weren’t available to students before will now be accessible.

“A huge plus is that now that they are on campus, the possibilities are endless for all the programs in which they will be able to participate in the future,” said Dr. Hunnicutt. “Some logistical things have hindered those students from being able to take part in some of our skills offerings, but I have no doubt that we will now see growth over the next few years.”

Dr. Steve Ellis, Superintendent of NCPS, stated, “Having our students on-site at NCC offers a fantastic opportunity for them to engage in high-quality education within a dynamic learning environment. We are excited to witness the positive impact this relocation will have on their academic journey. Here’s to a successful start to the new school year.”

A lot of thought was put into this and made possible through the strategic collaboration of NCC and NCPS.

“We have always worked extremely well together, and this is no different,” said Dr. Hunnicutt. “Due to the demerger (NCPS and Edgecombe County Public Schools), this move was something we had to make happen a little earlier than we planned, but I am so proud of our team for finding space to dedicate various classrooms in our D Building to become the learning spaces for CiTi High.”

Due to the continued expansive partnership between Nash Community College and Nash County Public Schools (NCPS), the Center for Industry, Technology, & Innovation High School (CiTi High) is now located… Continue Reading

[25,3,4
