Hunnicutt (left) and Dr. Ben Coulter (right)<\/em><\/p><\/div>\n<p>On Oct. 30, leaders from Nash Community College and Western Governors University participated in a signing ceremony to formalize a new transfer agreement between the two institutions. NCC graduates and employees will now have access to flexible, personalized learning pathways to higher education and professional development through WGU. The agreement formalizes the transfer of applicable academic credits between the schools, so NCC graduates will not have to retake courses if they transfer to WGU.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, NCC graduates, staff and faculty will be able to apply for specially designated WGU Community College Partner Scholarships valued at $2,500 each. Tuition is around $4,000 per six-month term for most WGU bachelor\u2019s degree programs.<\/p>\n<p>WGU is a nonprofit, accredited online university offering more than 80 bachelor\u2019s and master\u2019s degrees and certificate programs in business, IT, healthcare and K-12 education. The university\u2019s asynchronous programs are designed to fit into busy work and home schedules, so students can log in, study and take tests any time day or night. As a competency-based university, WGU offers students the option to take as many courses as they want per term with the consent of their assigned program mentor.<\/p>\n<p>The university has more than 176,000 students enrolled nationwide, including more than 5,500 in NC. Our new partnership with Western Governors University will truly provide our diverse student population with an opportunity to continue their education and path to a family sustaining wage. It is incredibly exciting and humbling to be a part of the team that made this happen for our incredible students on the heels of National Transfer Student Week.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>NCC is the vital comprehensive community college for Nash County, North Carolina, and the region, serving thousands of students each year with a diverse range of programs and services. NCC served over 20,000 students last academic year and has recently marked significant headcount growth of 11.5 percent for the Fall 2024 semester. Offering over 54 degrees, 17 diplomas, 76\u00a0 certificates and almost 4,000 courses, NCC truly has something for everyone.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe agreement we are signing today will facilitate a seamless transition for our graduates who wish to continue their education at WGU, allowing them to build on the strong foundation they have developed here at NCC,\u201d said Dr. Lew K.
