{"id":207,"date":"2012-08-17T14:02:15","date_gmt":"2012-08-17T14:02:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nashcc.edu\/news\/?p=207"},"modified":"2012-08-17T14:33:31","modified_gmt":"2012-08-17T14:33:31","slug":"ncc-focuses-on-student-success","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nashccnews.com\/news\/2012\/08\/ncc-focuses-on-student-success\/","title":{"rendered":"NCC FOCUSes on Student Success"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nashcc.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/firstday.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-209 alignleft\" title=\"firstday\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nashcc.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/firstday.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"360\" height=\"940\" \/><\/a>NCC students were welcomed back to campus this week as the fall\u00a0 semester began Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the College&#8217;s FOCUS initiative, faculty and staff were positioned throughout campus to help students find their way.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhether they are 19 years old and transitioning in from high school or they are 32 years old and have been misplaced from a job \u2013 this is their first day on a college campus,\u201d NCC Vice President for Instruction and Chief Academic Officer Dr. Trent Mohrbutter said. \u201cWith the \u2028FOCUS initiative, part \u2028of what we are creating is a sort of a calming. We are excited to have them on campus and want them to know that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>FOCUS, which stands for Fostering Opportunity Cultivating Unparallelled Success, is a program which aims to improve student success, retention and the first year experience.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe understand that coming to college is a big deal, and so that is what the FOCUS T-shirts are all about,\u201d Mohrbutter said. \u201cThe students can ask us anything they need. We want them to understand that Nash Community College is all about their road to success.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The College&#8217;s new Culinary Arts, Hospitality Management and Early Childhood Education spaces opened this week alleviating needed classroom space throughout campus.
