<\/strong>Nash Community College held a ribbon cutting ceremony Friday, September 21, celebrating the beginning of the South Campus Connector Road project. The road will connect the campus to Eastern Avenue near the location where the new Continuing Education and Public Services building will be constructed.<\/p>\n

NCC Trustees, Foundation Board Members and local officials celebrated the ribbon cutting for the college’s South Connector Road last week.<\/p><\/div>\n

Attendees also toured the new Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management programs\u2019 expansion and Early Childhood Education addition.<\/p>\n

Approximately 3,000 square feet were added to the Betsy B. Currin Child Development Center allowing for Early Childhood Education students classroom space in close proximity to the childcare center. \u201cThe new early childhood program wing addition provides students with new classrooms and a real world lab setting enabling them to acquire valuable skills through internships, observation and interaction with qualified teachers and of course children,\u201d NCC Board Chairman Bill Marshburn said.<\/p>\n

A 4,120 square foot space was added to the Business and Industry Center for the Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management programs. \u201cHaving the ability to be able to reach many students at once is 100 times better than what we had previously,\u201d Sexauer said. \u201cWe can hold multiple classes at one time as well and have the ability to cook where we are standing as opposed to cooking and then having to walk all over the place. It is much easier for the students.\u201d<\/p>\n

The college\u2019s expansion is vital to its role in continuing to meet the complex demands of the local workforce and to serve an increasing student enrollment. Over 3,100 students are enrolled this fall in curriculum programs with 143 in Early Childhood Education, 73 in Culinary Arts, 18 in Hospitality Management.<\/p>\n
