Reggie Cobb, Biology Instructor, 2015 Excellence in Teaching Recipient<\/p><\/div>\n

Nash Community College Biology Instructor, Reggie Cobb, has been selected as the 2015 recipient of the J. Edgar and Peggie T. Moore Excellence in Teaching Award. \u00a0“It was a humbling experience to know that first, the students recognize my efforts by submitting excellent reviews of my teaching, and second, the faculty and staff at Nash Community College recognize my teaching and collaborative skills. Over the past 15 years I have had the opportunity to work with many different Nash Community College faculty and staff regarding technology improvements and concerns. As I continue to interact with my colleagues, I continue to learn new teaching strategies and technology tools that help my courses to continually evolve as my students’ needs and learning styles change,” explained Cobb.<\/p>\n

Teaching\u00a0both in a traditional classroom setting and via online instruction, Cobb describes his teaching style as being environment dependent. A mixture of presentations, videos and discussions promoting student participation dominate the classroom lesson plans, while discussion forums and the sharing of student research presentations and projects are the basis of online classes. “For both on campus and online students, I find it beneficial to incorporate the latest technology such as animations and videos that help auditory and visual learners,” states Cobb.<\/p>\n

In a nomination letter about Cobb for the award, he is described as having “an extensive record of service to Nash Community College outside of his departmental obligations.” Such services include, Coordinator for the Nash Community College Green Day event, a member of True Blue\u00a0Core, participating in committees to bring the latest in tech to the classroom, and even a science fair judge at local elementary schools. Through Cobb’s commitment to his field and community involvement through Nash Community College, many local middle and high school students have been impacted and are enthusiastic\u00a0about the day they become a student at the College.<\/p>\n

Some of the gratuities\u00a0associated with this honor are a cash award from Ed and Peggie Moore of Rocky Mount, an invitation to represent Nash Community College in May of this year at the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) Conference in Austin, Texas, presentation of a medallion forged by NCC’s machining shop and serving as guest speaker at two paramount College events. \u00a0Cobb has a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and Master’s degree in Science Education, both from East Carolina University. \u00a0When not in the classroom, he resides in Elm City, NC with his wife and three sons. His free time is spent with family; camping, hiking or playing video games.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
