He was a radio personality and music director at Cloud County Community College radio station, KVCO 88.3 FM in Concordia, Kansas. “During my time there, I hosted and successfully programmed both format and specialty shows. The format was contemporary hit radio, while my specialty show consisted of a mix of Mainstream Rock, and Alternative. At one point, the station manager asked me if I could do a specialty show and a format show. They wanted me to do it because of my vast knowledge of music, and my understanding of radio,” he recalls. Michael selected all of the songs for the show, with the exception of requested music. Station staff and classmates alike were impressed by his ability to mix music so that it flowed together seamlessly, as well as his on-air skills. As music director, D’Agostin worked with personalities to help them craft their shows, providing feedback, guidance, and encouragement when necessary. He also has experience with Audacity audio editing software, and won several awards for the station from the Kansas Association of Broadcasting.

In 2014, D’Agostin moved to North Carolina and decided to join Big Bang Radio at Nash Community College. “Since coming to NCC, my show has continued to improve greatly. My name is Mike D, and I invite you to join me every Friday afternoon at 2PM on Ultimate Alternative.” Big Bang Radio is NCC’s radio station run by students and is broadcast locally as WNIA 89.1 FM, Tarboro, Rocky Mount, Nashville – a service of Nash Community College. BBR can be heard via live stream at nashcc.edu/bbr, and on Android and iPhone via apps available at the Google Play Store and iTunes.

“Whether it’s understanding the difference between connotation and denotation in Intro to Communications, learning how to write with a purpose in Creative writing, effectively creating presentations in Public Speaking, finding out who I am in people skills, or learning how to program a show in a non commercial setting at Big Bang Radio, knowledge is power. And it can take you further than you’ve ever imagined,” he said.

NCC student Michael D’Agostin’s radio experience began when he was 20 years old.
