The first class of its kind in North Carolina, the Nash Community College Emergency Dispatch Academy recently recognized its first graduating class. Of the six graduates, four have already begun their careers as emergency dispatchers with Nash County 911. \u201cWe have a history of being at the forefront of training, offering relevant\u00a0programs with real-world applications. The Emergency Dispatch Academy prepares students for local in-demand careers,\u201d said NCC President Dr. Bill Carver.<\/p>\n

The Emergency Dispatch Academy features instructor led lectures, hands-on experience with a dispatch console, opportunities to participate in real life scenarios while learning essential multi-tasking techniques, and written assessments such as quizzes, module exams and a final exam. Upon completion of the course, students should be able to effectively operate in a\u00a0critical\u00a0role within an Emergency 911 Center and will be able to function as vital link in the Emergency Response field.\u00a0Students must have earned\u00a0a High School Diploma or equivalency\u00a0and successfully complete a reading comprehension placement test prior to taking the class.<\/p>\n
