Changes in the healthcare profession have increased the demand on two-year RNs to complete a bachelor\u2019s degree in order to be considered for a management position.<\/p>\n
Last fall, Nash Community College President Dr. Bill Carver and Barton College President Dr. Douglas N. Searcy\u00a0signed an agreement to bring a four-year degree to Nash Community College\u2019s campus. The community college has collaborated with Barton College for over a decade to provide students the option of continuing their educational journey in pursuit of a four-year degree via the articulation agreement. With the ADN to BSN partnership between Nash Community College and Barton College, Associate Degree Nursing students have the opportunity to smoothly transition into their studies in Barton College\u2019s Bachelor of Science in Nursing program.<\/p>\n
Students currently in Nash\u2019s nursing program who successfully complete the Associate Degree Nursing program and National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN) may progress into the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree program offered through Barton College without leaving Nash Community College\u2019s campus. The entire ADN to BSN program will be offered on the Nash campus.<\/p>\n
The NCC – Barton Nursing partnership is based on a mutual commitment to academic excellence, pedagogy, student learning, and supporting students in their quest for lifelong success. The partnership allows access, a smooth transition and lower tuition to students completing their Nursing degree at Nash. Though the baccalaureate degree will be conferred by Barton College, it can be earned at a competitive cost. As many community college students are raising families, have jobs, and play an active role in their communities, this transition program makes pursuing a four-year degree a more realistic opportunity.<\/p>\n
The first step in this bachelor\u2019s degree partnership with Barton College is a bridge course assessment. The NCC Associate Degree Nursing to Bachelor of Science in Nursing \u201cbridge course\u201d provides RNs with essential information to help navigate the decisions regarding continued nursing studies. \u201cDepending on when a candidate finished, a subject area refresher may be required,\u201d Dr. Tammie Clark, NCC\u2019s Dean of Health and Related Sciences said. Guidance such as transcript analysis, assistance with the application process, a needs assessment, advisement, registration and information about financial aid options can be helpful when looking to advance in the nursing career. The ADN to BSN cohort program will be instructed on a convenient night and weekend schedule.<\/p>\n
“RN to BSN Path to Advancement” will begin\u00a0on September 19 and end on October 24 and the cost is $70. “Core concepts will be offered through a hybrid of online and face to face class sessions\u00a0to help nurses in the field better prepare to apply and transition into a BSN program,\u201d Clark said. \u00a0The face to face sessions will be held on Monday nights in Building D room 4120 from 6:30 pm- 8:30 pm. The RN to BSN Path to Advancement course provides registered nurses with essential services to help as they make the decision on where to continue their nursing studies. In the course, the nurses prepare for successful transition into, and completion of, a BSN degree program. These measures, offered in a total of 24 hours through a series of online and face to face class sessions, help nurses in the field to better prepare to apply and transition into a BSN program. \u201cCompletion of the course does not guarantee admission into a RN-BSN program; however, it is highly recommended for those\u00a0interested in entering the 2017 Nash Community College – Barton College nursing cohort,” she said.<\/p>\n
