Major highlights include the college celebrating more than 1,000 CDL truck driving graduates\u00a0in the program\u2019s tenth year, and curriculum programs and students receiving national recognition.<\/p>\n<p>NCC students and faculty attended the 52nd annual SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference in Louisville, KY \u2013 a showcase of career and technical education students. More than 16,000 people participated in the week-long event. NCC ranked seventh in the United States\u00a0for Computer Numerical Control\u00a0Milling and nineteenth for Cosmetology. At the state SkillsUSA conference,\u00a0NCC\u00a0Welding student Mitchell Harrell placed\u00a0first overall in the Welding competition\u00a0and the college was\u00a0awarded first place for Welding.<\/p>\n<p>Nash Community College launched an ambitious redesigned website\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nashcc.edu\/\">www.nashcc.edu<\/a> at the end of 2016. The new site features an updated overall graphic look, and easy navigation strategically aimed with users in mind.<\/p>\n<p>Included in the college\u2019s enhanced online presence, added degree options continue to be a popular choice for students near and far. Since the launch, Nash Online now has 12 degrees, one diploma, and 26 certificates offered completely online. These online offerings meet the needs of students regardless of their location or ability to relocate or commute, providing them with the same quality education experienced on the physical campus.<\/p>\n<p>Nash Community College is moving forward with construction projects thanks to funding from the $2 billion Connect NC bond, which North Carolina voters supported during the March 2016 primary election. Site preparation is underway for an Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering Building and Cosmetology facility. This will allow for dedicated space for the Nash-Rocky Mount Early College High School. Construction is estimated to begin in June 2017 and the buildings are anticipated to open in spring 2018.<\/p>\n<p>Nash Community College wrapped up its employee campaign in December with a strong kick off for the college\u2019s fiftieth year celebrating student success. One hundred percent of faculty and staff donated to help fund student scholarships, giving a total of $38,102 for deserving students in need to pursue their educational dreams. And, despite inclement weather earlier in the week, the spring semester began Monday, January 9 with enrollment expected to exceed 3,000 students.<\/p>\n<p>On\u200b Tuesday, \u200bFebruary 28th from \u200b5:30-7:\u200b3\u200b0pm, Nash Community College along with Nash-Rocky Mount Public Schools will host sixth through twelfth grade students and their parents at the E\u200bighth\u200b Annual Career &amp; Technical Education Open House in the NCC Business and Industry Center. The community is invited to attend the free event that annually boasts more than 1,000 participants. Industry partners will be on-hand to answer questions and provide information about local career options. The event will give students and parents an opportunity to learn more about the college application process, financial aid, academic programs, career options and more.\u200b Hands-on d\u200bemonstrations will be held throughout campus designed to engage students and parents.<\/p>\n<p>NCC will hold its Second Annual Blue Fest on Saturday, April 29\u00a0on the campus. The\u00a0festival will highlight interactive program opportunities and an exhibition of academic work well done. Blue Fest is for the entire family and there will be activities of interest for everyone including the Third Annual Run for Knowledge.
