Each year, the Pride Award honors a full-time employee or group of employees who approach their role with pride. In 2016, the honor was given to a group of faculty and staff for their leadership role in preparing the campus for certification as a national demonstration site for Advancement via Individual Determination (AVID) Higher Education (AHE) – one of only two demonstration sites in the United States.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen it is our job to prepare students for success, it is not good enough for only a small number to graduate. If we want to build a better state, the responsibility is on the backs of community colleges,” NCC President Dr. Bill Carver said. “These recipients are being recognized for going the extra mile in ensuring our campus makes student success a top priority. We do not have a special department or group of students impacted by great instruction. We are an \u2018all in\u2019 college and that is what Blue Love is all about.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nash Community College partnered with AVID as part of the campus professional development plan. AHE worked with the NCC AVID team to develop and implement a common instructional language, which has established a framework of continuous improvement both in the classroom and across the campus. The team led the campus in implementing research based instructional strategies to engage students and prepare them for success.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn 2015, the Nash Community College Professional Development Committee set a goal of becoming an AVID National Demonstration Site. The campus hosted an initial site team visit in November, received feedback, and prepared for the certification site visit which occurred in 2016,\u201d NCC Vice President for Instruction and Chief Academic Officer Dr. Trent Mohrbutter said. \u201cAVID is recognized around the world as an organization that works to improve student success in K-12 and Higher Education.
