Debbie&#8217;s Fund was established\u00a0as a memorial tribute to Debbie Kornegay, her legacy, passion for cooking, ministry of service, and\u00a0commitment to education, and has impacted many lives throughout North Carolina.<\/p>\n<p>College <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nashcc.edu\/courses-programs\/academic-programs\/detail\/Hospitality-Management-A25110\">Hospitality Management<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nashcc.edu\/courses-programs\/academic-programs\/detail\/Culinary-Arts-A55150\">Culinary<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nashcc.edu\/courses-programs\/academic-programs\/detail\/Brewing-Distillation-and-Fermentation-A15250\">Brewing, Distillation and Fermentation<\/a> faculty and students, along with other widely known industry professionals will provide a feature of seasonal fare and culinary delights. Whether working with well-known chefs, restaurateurs, or celebrity chefs like Paula Deen and Bobby Flay, Lisa\u2019s love for cooking and good food has taken her across the state surveying the vibrant food scene and bounty.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to great food, guests will sample barrel aged spirits, Nash Community College student brews, and even a signature event cocktail specially crafted by Certified Spirits Specialist Michael J. Ring. A VIP hour will begin at 5:00 PM in NCC\u2019s Brewing, Distillation and Fermentation classroom, with Michael educating attendees on the production, maturation and pairing of whisky. Michael began his hospitality career as an American Culinary Federation Apprentice quickly ascending to the rank of Executive Chef. There he found a passion for wine and spirits that matched his love of global cuisines. Having toured over 45 distilleries in North America and abroad, he has continued to educate himself. She was born in Ashland, Kentucky on May 29, 1949, to Frank Jay and Patricia Sinnette Slone. She graduated from Rocky Mount Senior High School in 1967. She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 1970. She was the coordinator of the Meals on Wheels program of Rocky Mount and the secretary of the Men&#8221;s Christian Home. Debbie was a gifted artist and potter. She loved and cherished Ocracoke Island and all her wonderful friends there. She was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd, which she loved.<\/p>\n<p>Debbie, 58, passed away\u00a0Thursday, Oct. 18, 2007. She was an avid outdoorswoman and loved to jog, fish and hunt. She was generous and caring and did all she could for those around her. She had a kind and compassionate heart. She was\u00a0survived by her husband of 37 years, Robert D. Kornegay Jr.; children, Anastasia Kornegay and Robert D. Kornegay III; her parents, Frank Jay and Patricia Sinnette Slone; brothers, Frank Richard Slone, Robert Bryan Slone and wife, Patricia Turner Slone; sister-in-law, Judith L. Kornegay and husband, Dr. Nicholas A. Patrone; brother-in-law, William E. Kornegay; mother-in-law, Anne E. Kornegay; nieces, Katherine Ann Slone, Christina Slone, Laura Anne Kornegay, Jennifer Ellen Kornegay; nephews, Bryan Howard Slone, Nicholas Slone, Paul Nathan Patrone, William E. Kornegay, Jr., and her dog, Jewel. She was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Dr. Robert D.
