The purpose of the program was to equip mental health and addiction recovery professionals with the knowledge to build community recovery programs.<\/p>\n<p>Tom Coderre, Senior Advisor for \u200bthe \u200bSubstance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), facilitated the training provided \u200bwith the support of Nash Community College, SAMHSA and Recovery Communities of North Carolina.<\/p>\n<p>Representatives from community behavioral health, Oxford Houses, Recovery Communities of North Carolina, North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, HOPE Initiative, Coastal Plain Hospital, Coalition for Addiction Recovery Education, Wilson County and Carteret County were among the attendees.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are in an opioid crisis with an increase in deaths in North Carolina of approximately 800 percent. Collegiate Recovery is \u200ba critical component to the clinical services we offer students\u200b Nash, and we are always learning new evidence-based practices to incorporate into our on-campus counseling,\u201d NCC Director of Student Wellness Marbeth Holmes said.<\/p>\n<p>Tom Coderre is well\u200b-known in the addiction recovery community for his work on a variety of issues related to substance abuse prevention, treatment and recovery programs\u200b and policy. He collaborates on these issues and helps represent SAMHSA with Health and Human Services agencies and the White House. Coderre is a passionate advocate and committed public servant who works to craft effective public policy\u200b with the goal of reducing the impact of substance abuse and mental illness on America&#8217;s communities.<\/p>\n<p>The training at Nash Community College \u200bwas aimed at helping \u200b\u200bcommunity partners \u200bto provide\u200b support to individuals currently in treatment, and those in post-treatment recovery.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nash Community College hosted &#8220;Building and Sustaining Communities of Recovery&#8221; training on campus Monday, July 31, 2017.
