Nash Community College hosted its inaugural Professional Peer Academy Conference Monday, October 9, 2017 in the Business and Industry Center. Sixty-five faculty and administrators attended representing 14 North Carolina colleges.\u00a0The conference theme was “Teaching Beyond the Content”.<\/p>\n

Guests visited Rocky Mount Mills for a pre-conference social held Sunday, October 8 in the NCC 360\u00b0 Brewing Classroom. On Monday, Dave Pearce presented the keynote address: “Student Success: What\u2019s Important?” Pearce\u00a0has nearly 40 years of experience as an educator and administrator in the North Vancouver School District. He is author of Instruction Matters: One Step at a Time chronicling the seven-year process of North Vancouver School District\u2019s system-wide implementation of instructional change. Most recently, he has focused on the organization and implementation of a leadership series for administrators, senior management and future leaders in the K-12 and higher education systems, and is known for his presentations on the practical design of instructional strategies for all learners. In addition, the conference featured more than a dozen peer-led breakout sessions focusing on instructional strategies for today’s learners.\u00a0Conference attendees reported networking, compelling content and engaging presentations among the best aspects of the Peer Academy.<\/p>\n

NCC is certified as one of only two National Demonstration Sites for Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) Higher Education (AHE).
