Students in Nash Community College’s Foundational Adult Basic Education program recently opened the Coffee Corner located on the first floor of the Continuing Education and Public Services Building. The students are gaining skills in customer service and math as they sell coffee, juice and light breakfast food items. In the photos, students in the\u00a0Hospitality\u00a0and Food Service\u00a0track\u00a0complete an in-class group cooking project.<\/div>\n

The\u00a0Foundational Adult Basic Education\u00a0program is\u00a0an extension of the local Occupational Course of Study activities\u00a0designed for students with intellectual disabilities. The program\u00a0allows students to continue their education and training beyond high school as they explore career pathways at the community college level. Students receive instruction in math and language arts, and coursework in specific career pathways. Through classroom instruction and internships, students are prepared to find work in Hospitality\u00a0and Food Service, Gardening and Lawn Maintenance, Commercial Cleaning, and Retail Sales.<\/div>\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
