Local small business owners find confidence, opportunity and success through free resources offered by Nash Community College\u2019s Small Business Center.<\/div>\n

Felicia Lucas of\u00a0Wendell, wife, mother, full-time retail manager and trainer, built a small business to help others overcome a common issue.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u201cAs an author, Lucas discovered it was very costly to publish a book and came to realize that many folks probably just gave up during the process,” NCC Small Business Center Director Theresa Peaden said. “After learning how to self-publish, she began His Glory Creations Publishing, LLC in order to help others publish affordable, quality books.\u201d<\/div>\n

Lucas is a University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill graduate, co-founded a non-profit organization, has authored four books, and developed the \u201cWrite to Live\u201d program\u00a0helping\u00a0youth succeed over life challenges and obstacles through the therapeutic process of writing. She has\u00a0utilized\u00a0numerous resources through the NCC Small Business Center.<\/div>\n

When Felicia Lucas attended\u00a0NCC’s\u00a0\u201cHow to Write a Winning Business Plan\u201d free seminar,\u00a0she learned about the DreamFest Business Challenge\u00a0–\u00a0a competition awarding cash prizes up to $17,500. Following free counseling provided\u00a0through the\u00a0Small Business Center, she\u00a0drafted her plan, and entered the competition.<\/div>\n

His Glory Creations Publishing , LLC \u00a0was selected as one of six finalists among the \u00a023 DreamFest competitors. \u201cI never knew the scope of services offered by my local Small Business Center,\u201d Lucas said. \u201cI would not have become one of the DreamFest finalists if it had not been for Theresa Peaden and her relentless investment in me and my business.\u201d<\/p>\n

Through the NCC Small Business Center, Felicia Lucas also learned about Youth Entrepreneur Program \u2013 a summer camp for rising 7th \u2013 12th grader s to\u00a0hone entrepreneurial skills , develop a\u00a0business idea and writ e\u00a0a business plan. She delivered the material to a group of young enthusiastic, prospective entrepreneurs. \u201cI am so grateful that the Small Business Center helped me tap into my passion for teaching teens and\u00a0giving\u00a0back to the community,\u201d Lucas \u00a0shared.<\/p>\n
