Tywana Lawson,\u00a0director of nursing programs at Nash Community College,<\/span>\u00a0is the recipient of East Carolina University’s 2018 Young Alumni\u00a0Achievement\u00a0<\/span>Award.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Lawson\u00a0e<\/span>arned\u00a0<\/span>Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees\u00a0<\/span>from the East Carolina University\u00a0<\/span>College of Nursing.\u00a0She is a Certified Nurse Educator.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

Under her leadership\u00a0<\/span>at Nash Community College, the nursing program has experienced an<\/span>\u00a0increase in student completion rates by 30 percentage points. Lawson also worked with Nash UNC Health Care to establish scholarships for first and second-year nursing students\u00a0and i<\/span>n partnership with Barton College to offer a seamless transition to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree for nursing students enrolled in the Associate Degree Nursing program at NCC<\/span>.<\/p>\n

Lawson is a member of the American and North Carolina Nurses Association, Sigma Theta Tau International, and is an ECU Centennial Pirate.\u00a0She<\/span>\u00a0resides in La Grange, North Carolina with her husband\u00a0<\/span>Corey,<\/span>\u00a0also a two-time ECU graduate.<\/span><\/p>\n

The ECU Young Alumni Achievement Award recognizes young alumni ages 32 and under who have achieved notable success following graduation.\u00a0Lawson will be recognized at the ECU Alumni Awards Ceremony on October 19 at the Greenville Convention Center.<\/span><\/p>\n
