The Board of Trustees voted in support of the naming opportunity at the regular board meeting held on September 16, 2019.

Dedicated in June 2015, the Continuing Education building contains 31 classrooms and nine labs. It is also home to an eight-lane, 3,000 square foot, indoor gun range and virtual reality simulator used for law enforcement training. Additionally, the facility features space for fire and emergency medical services and an aseptic room.

In his remarks during the board meeting, Paul Jaber said, “As Nash Community College’s Board Chair and on behalf of the Board of Trustees, we have witnessed Dr. Carver’s efforts as Nash Community College continues to grow to meet the needs of local citizens, business and industry. The College is an active contributor to workforce recruitment and development. Dr. Carver’s dedication, vision, and strategic efforts have helped ensure this area remains competitive.”

The Continuing Education and Public Services Building was a result of the Nash County Commissioners approving a bond referendum and the overwhelming public support in May 2012. Nash County leadership, in partnership with the U.S. Economic Development Administration, provided funding to support the economic vitality of the region. Many industry partners and generous individuals also provided additional support for the building.

“This building was a long time coming. A tremendous amount of planning, conversations, strategy sessions, and hours of preparation made it a reality,” NCC President Bill Carver said. “The building belongs to the community and serves the greater Nash County region as the instruction, technology and delivery methods used within it help students prepare to meet the complex demands of today’s workforce.”

During the board meeting, trustees adopted a resolution of appreciation honoring Carver’s commitment and 32 years of service and presented him with a commemorative clock.

Being one of the longest tenured presidents in the North Carolina Community College System, Carver has positively impacted student retention, progress and success, and his long-range planning has resulted in continued growth and recognition for the College. Carver is known for his leadership addressing unique workforce training needs including Electric Line Construction Technology, Veterinary Medical Technology, Brewing, Distillation and Fermentation, Associate in Engineering degree, and Nash Online’s program for remote learners.

Carver has served as President of Nash Community College since 2005 and has established a strong reputation for positioning and advancing the College through innovative thinking, out-of-the-box vision, with a recognizable brand known throughout the State.

Nash Community College recently announced the naming of the Continuing Education building after Dr. Bill Carver who is set to retire at the end of October.
