The Nash Community College Global Scholars program hosted a trip to Washington, D.C. on Friday, October 4. Students, faculty and community members visited the National African American History Museum, the national monuments, and various Smithsonian museums during their visit.

\u201cWe were very excited to take students to the National African American History Museum this year,\u201d Eva Williams, faculty advisor for the NCC Global Scholars program said. \u201cThis museum has been on our list for some time and we were finally able to access group tickets. It was an excellent opportunity for our students to explore the local, national, and global implications of a major piece of our nation\u2019s history.\u201d \"\"<\/p>\n

Through the Global Scholars program, Nash Community College students develop global competencies and skills needed to be successful in today\u2019s economy. The program focuses on discovering what it means to be a global citizen and how students can apply this knowledge to their academic and professional endeavors. \u201cWe live in an increasingly interconnected world,\u201d Katie Hoffer, co-director, NCC Global Scholars Program said. \u201cEastern North Carolina is seeing an increase in international companies operating within our community. The Global Scholars program engages students to think globally about how they interact and understand the world around them, enriching our own community at both a personal and professional level.\u201d<\/p>\n

Requirements for earning the Global Perspective Scholars distinction at Nash Community College include: completing 15 credit hours with a minimum of a C in courses designated as globally intensive, participating in eight global activities and 30 hours of global experience through travel abroad and\/or domestic intercultural experience or service and a capstone presentation related to the global learning experience and participation. \"\"<\/p>\n

Upon completion of all program requirements, students earn the identification of \u201cGlobal Perspective Scholar\u201d on their NCC transcript and receive specialized regalia to wear at commencement exercises.<\/p>\n
