College to Hold Inaugural Blue Fest

Nash Community College (NCC) will host its first ever “Blue Fest” on Saturday, May 7, 2016. The inaugural event will combine two of the College’s annual events and add a festival component bringing the community to our campus. Blue Fest is the College’s way of showcasing much of what it has to offer the community. The event will truly be a celebration of work well done. Blue Fest is for the entire family and there will be events of interest for everyone.

At 8:30 a.m., the Second Annual Run for Knowledge 5K will begin at the NCC Continuing Education and Public Services Building. Runners will take off for the trees in a race featuring a combination of road and trail with the race ending at the Continuing Education and Public Services Building on Eastern Avenue. A complete course map is located HERE. Proceeds from the Run for Knowledge benefit the Nash Community College Foundation and Student Government Association. For information about the race contact the race director at  runforknowledge@nashcc.edu or visit www.nashcc.edu/run.

Individuals interested in participating in the Ninth Annual Jack Laughery Ride for Knowledge will register for the motorcycle ride at 9:30 a.m. May 7th at Rocky Mount Harley-Davidson. At 11:30 a.m., riders will take off from the dealership for an hour-long ride through western Nash County escorted by Nash County Sheriff’s Office. The ride will conclude at Blue Fest on the Nash Community College campus. The ride serves as a tribute to Jack Laughery, the former CEO and chairman of the Hardee’s restaurant chain along with his wife, Helen and their love of motorcycling and support of higher education. All proceeds from the motorcycle ride benefit the Helen and Jack Laughery Honorary Scholarship Fund at Nash Community College.

Runners, riders and festival attendees will enjoy lunch and live music at Blue Fest. Event attractions highlighting Nash Community College programs and offerings will be provided throughout the day including a beer garden, children’s activities, culinary sampling and instructional demonstrations of various types. All events are rain or shine. The event is for the whole community…literally. Even dogs are invited to Blue Fest as long as they remain on a leash six feet long or less.

For information about sponsoring any of the events, contact Pat Daniels at  pdaniels@nashcc.edu or visit www.nashcc.edu/ride.
