NCC FOCUSes on Student Success

NCC students were welcomed back to campus this week as the fall  semester began Wednesday morning.

As part of the College’s FOCUS initiative, faculty and staff were positioned throughout campus to help students find their way.

“Whether they are 19 years old and transitioning in from high school or they are 32 years old and have been misplaced from a job – this is their first day on a college campus,” NCC Vice President for Instruction and Chief Academic Officer Dr. Trent Mohrbutter said. “With the
FOCUS initiative, part
of what we are creating is a sort of a calming. We are excited to have them on campus and want them to know that.”

FOCUS, which stands for Fostering Opportunity Cultivating Unparallelled Success, is a program which aims to improve student success, retention and the first year experience.

“We understand that coming to college is a big deal, and so that is what the FOCUS T-shirts are all about,” Mohrbutter said. “The students can ask us anything they need. We want them to understand that Nash Community College is all about their road to success.”

The College’s new Culinary Arts, Hospitality Management and Early Childhood Education spaces opened this week alleviating needed classroom space throughout campus. NCC enrollment has grown to more than 3,100 students this semester.
