NCC Law Enforcement Training Cadets Graduate
Sixteen cadets recently graduated from Nash Community College’s thirty-fifth Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) class. During the twenty-seven week training, students learned essential skills required for entry-level employment as law enforcement officers with state, county, or municipal governments, or with private enterprise.
At the recent graduation ceremony, Platoon Leader James McLaughlin addressed the graduates. “It is because of our instructors we stand before you now as future protectors ready to hold the line for liberty, equality and justice. We are ready to follow in the path of those before us, to fight for those who cannot fight for themselves and to protect the society that others fight to protect on a different front,” he said.
The NCC Law Enforcement Training program utilizes a combination of physical and classroom state commission-mandated topics and methods of instruction. General subjects include criminal, juvenile, civil, traffic, and alcohol beverage laws; investigative, patrol, custody, and court procedures; emergency responses; and ethics, community relations and more.
To graduate, students must successfully complete and pass all units of study, which include the certification examination mandated by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission and the North Carolina Sheriffs’ Education and Training Standards Commission.
