NCC Foundation Hosts 23rd Annual Student Scholarship Golf Classic


The Twenty-Third Annual Nash Community College Foundation Student Scholarship Golf Classic was held at Birchwood Country Club in Nashville on October 4, 2012 with 136 golfers participating. The tournament raised $30,000 for student scholarships.

Members of the golf committee coordinating the event were 2012 Committee Chair Wes Berry – BB&T Senior Vice President/City Executive, Jim Carpenter – McLane Vice President of Distribution, Morris Wilder – Certified Public Accountant and Business Consultant, Scott Rogers – Nash County Assistant Emergency Services Director, Cam Blalock – Sr. Vice President of Corporate Services, Nash Health Care Systems, David Combs – Broker/Owner, Century 21/The Combs Company, Randy Davis – Golf Professional, Birchwood Country Club, Clay Frazier – President, Universal Leaf North America, U.S. and Joe Saputo – President, Carolina Eagle Budweiser, Inc., Dr. Bill Carver – NCC President, Annette Dishner – NCC Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, Dr. Trent Mohrbutter – NCC Vice President for Instruction and Chief Academic Officer  and Pat Daniels – NCC Foundation Executive Director.

This year’s grand tournament sponsors were Autumn Care of Nash, Calvin Davenport, Inc., Cummins Rocky Mount Engine Plant, MBM, McLane, Nash Health Care Systems, North Carolina’s Electric Cooperatives, Oakley-Collier Architects, Sandy Cross Consultant Service, Inc. and Wells Fargo. Hospitality and event contributors were Speight’s Trophy Shop, Carolina Eagle Budweiser Inc., Davenport Autopark, Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, The Cheesecake Factory Bakery, Poppies International, Canteen Vending Services, Birchwood Country Club, Chick-fil-A of Cobb Corners, SunDrop Bottling Company of Rocky Mount and Verizon Wireless.

Tournament Winners – Speight’s Trophy Shop

The first place team in the championship flight was Speight’s Trophy Shop with a total net score of 37.6. Team members included (from left): Ray Richardson, Ashley Leonard, Carolyn Hinton and Roscoe Speight.

Championship Flight – Second Place Team
In second place was the North Carolina’s Electric Cooperatives team with a net score of 42.7. Team members included (from left):Cecil Alexander, Tommy Greer, Rhonda Williams and William O’Conney.

First Flight – First Place Team

The first flight winner was the Batts, Batts and Bell team with a net score of 46.4. Team members included (from left): Phil Lane, Lisa Holland, Jeffrey Batts and Dink Warren.

First Flight – Second Place Team

The second place winner in the same flight was the The Doctor’s Posse’ with a net score of 49. Team players included (from left): Jerome Creech, Dr. Trent Mohrbutter, Stuart Sanderson and David Anderson.

Second Flight – First Place Team
The Nashville Auto Mart team was the second flight winner with a net score of 43.8. Team members included (from left): Rick Davenport, Debi Davenport, Kristin Davenport and Travis Davenport.   

Second Flight – Second Place Team
The second place winner in the second flight was the The Dudes team sponsored with a net score of 44.3 with team players (from left): Steve Berry, John Tulloss, Fred Tulloss and Bill Craig.

Contest Winners

Closest-to-the-pin contest winners were: Brandon Godwin on hole two representing Team Tyson, Rich Parker on hole nine representing the Wells Fargo team, Dan Sellers on hole 12 representing The President’s Team and Graham Campbell on hole 17 representing Teeny-Weeny Cleaning Service. The men’s longest drive winner was Brock Godwin of Team Tyson and the women’s longest drive winner was Ashley Leonard from the Speight’s Trophy Shop team. Steve Berry with SunDrop Bottling Company of Rocky Mount won the Acer Tablet raffle.
