NCC Nursing Students Tour NC Jaycee Burn Center

Nash Community College second-year Nursing students recently traveled to UNC-Chapel Hill as guests of Ernest Grant, MSN, RN, Director of Outreach and Education for the North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center following Grant’s lecture at Nash Community College about nursing care of burn patients.
Students took a guided tour of the North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center and UNC Carolina Air Care. The Center is a 21-bed facility that is one of the few in the nation that is American Burn Association verified for adult and pediatric care.
UNC Carolina Air Care provides Critical Care Medical Transport by operating two helicopters 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Both helicopters were on-site, and the students were able to speak with flight nurses and tour the helicopters.
Additionally, a Rocky Mount native and burn and plane crash survivor held a Q&A session with the students regarding his personal experiences as a burn patient and survivor.
