NCC Hires Alumnus to Lead Alumni Association

Melissa Sykes,
NCC Coordinator of Alumni and Annual Programs

Nash Community College has hired an alumnus to lead its alumni outreach. Melissa Sykes of Nashville was named the College’s Coordinator of Alumni and Annual Programs earlier this month.

Sykes joins Nash Community College from Louisburg College where she served in the Financial Aid department. In her role, she will be responsible for driving alumni engagement and coordinating NCC Foundation activities and annual programs. “With experience in higher education, financial aid and service to her own alumni associations, Melissa brings a wealth of knowledge to Nash Community College. As a result, the College plans to offer more alumni programs and reach out to alumni near and far,” NCC Associate Vice President of Institutional Advancement Pat Ellis Daniels said.

Sykes graduated from Nash Community College with an Associate in Applied Science degree in Criminal Justice. Then she transferred to North Carolina Wesleyan College where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Justice Studies, later graduating from Capella University with a Master of Science degree in Human Service.

“Nearly 90 percent of our graduates remain in Nash County. We want to connect with them regularly and share their successes with current students and fellow alumni,” Daniels shared. Alumni are encouraged to participate in its 24th Annual Student Scholarship Golf Classic on October 10, 2013 at Benvenue Country Club in Rocky Mount.
