Lyn C. Brown

Nash Community College has awarded the 2014 Nash Community College Outstanding Alumna Award to Lyn C. Brown of Rocky Mount, recognizing her achievements as a past graduate to provide inspiration for current students. She was selected for the College’s highest alumni honor for her excellence in leadership and service, and dedication to lifelong learning.

 

Lyn Brown’s service extends throughout the community and the State. For years, she has shown her commitment through her unparalleled dedication and passion for helping others. Whether managing IT projects, leading a professional board, raising money for education, or volunteering at her church, service is what Lyn Brown is known for.

 

Lyn Brown began her career as an Administrative Assistant with Rocky Mount Developmental Evaluation Center in 1976. She served with the State for 31 years, becoming a clerical supervisor, and leading staff as a member of the management team. During her tenure, she implemented new computer technology and executed successful projects locally and statewide.

 

Lyn enrolled at Nash Community College during her career with the State. She graduated with an Associate in Applied Science degree in Microcomputer Systems and was promoted to Local and Wide Area Network (LAN/WAN) Manager for North Carolina’s Developmental Evaluation Center Programs in 1997. In 1998, she graduated from NCC with an Associate in Arts – College Transfer degree and continued her education at North Carolina State University where she was a member of the Golden Key International and Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Societies. In 2004, Lyn graduated from North Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management.

 

Upon her retirement in 2005, Lyn was presented The Order of the Long Leaf Pine by North Carolina Governor Mike Easley. Among the most prestigious awards in North Carolina, the honor is bestowed upon individuals who have a proven record of extraordinary service to the State. Lyn is also a recipient of the Rocky Mount Area Chamber of Commerce Woody Brown Volunteer Award.

 

Lyn Brown currently serves as Financial Account Development Officer/Information Technology Officer at Providence Bank in Rocky Mount. She is actively involved with the Rocky Mount Area Chamber of Commerce, having served as the Board’s Vice Chair for Membership Services and a Chamber Ambassador. Lyn also is a member and Past Vice President of the Women’s Professional Networking Group, and a member of Rocky Mount Business Builders, the Rocky Mount Rotary Club and is a sustaining member of the Junior Guild of Rocky Mount.

 

As the 2011-2012 NCC Foundation Board President, Lyn provided exemplary leadership to Nash Community College and the student scholarship program and she remains active as a NCC Foundation Board Member. She is the Altar Guild Co-Chair at Saint Andrews Episcopal Church in Rocky Mount.

 

Lyn Brown has two adult sons, Wesley (wife, Heather) and David (wife, Claire) and two grandchildren.
