NCC Celebrates Graduation

Over the past few weeks, the Nash Community College campus has celebrated major milestones in its commitment to student success and graduating every student.

The College’s Adult High School Diploma and High School Equivalency commencement ceremony was held Thursday, May 15, 2014 in the College’s Brown Auditorium. Three students graduated with Adult High School diplomas and 126 students graduated with High School Equivalency diplomas. Dr. Cindy Bennett, Executive Director of Strategic Twin Counties Educational Partnership (STEP), delivered the keynote address.

Students, faculty and staff celebrated a record Curriculum graduation Friday, May 16 with 458 students receiving 626 degrees, diplomas and certificates. Two hundred sixty students walked across the stage during the largest graduation ceremony in the history of the College. Nash Community College is ranked number four of only 12 community colleges in North Carolina currently experiencing growth. Over 120 guests were seated in the Library and Rotunda in Building A watching the live feed.

North Carolina Treasurer Janet Cowell encouraged the graduates in their future endeavors saying spirituality, self-awareness and relationships are keys to finding an individual’s way in life. Student Government Association President James Horne addressed the graduates. “Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do something because every single one of us can do anything we want,” he said. “We can be anybody we want to be. We are the class of 2014 and we will succeed, we will fly. I see people in this place with a passion, a desire and a will to do great things and make changes in the world,” Horne said.

Following the Curriculum graduation, the College presented its largest class of Associate Degree Nursing graduates during the Nurses Pinning ceremony. Fifty-eight Associate Degree Nursing students graduated – nearly double the size of the College’s next largest nursing class. Robyn Perkerson, NCC Alumna and Chief Executive Officer of LifeCare Hospitals of North Carolina, shared an inspiring message.
