NCC Begins Annual Campaign, Impacts Students and Area Quality of Life

Nash Community College is indeed fortunate to have Craig Worthy, longtime community advocate, to direct the 2015 Foundation Campaign. The campaign began March 12th with 27 members of the Foundation Board of Directors canvassing the community to help meet the needs of the College and to assist students wishing to continue their education.

“Students depend on Nash Community College as they pursue a degree or develop a skill-set to better themselves and improve their quality of life. They prepare for successful futures on NCC’s campus and go out into our communities serving as our hospitality employees, nurses, first responders and many other necessary vocational capacities,” Worthy said. “In short, NCC graduates impact our community’s quality of life.”

Dr. W. Dallas Herring, the former Chair of the North Carolina State Board of Education, was an innovator and visionary who made significant contributions to the establishment, development, and expansion of the North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS). He has often been referred to as the “father of the NCCCS” and is remembered for his belief that education should be available to all. He felt community colleges should “….take people from where they are, as far as they can go.”

The NCC Foundation and the College are committed to helping prepare students for successful futures regardless of where they start, by providing scholarship funds to deserving students from all walks of life. A scholarship recipient and alumna from the College’s largest nursing graduating class shared, “The most important thing I would like to convey to you is that your efforts change people’s lives. I started out on the road to graduation long ago, but put my education was put on hold as I began a family. The idea of going back to finish my degree was compounded by family and work responsibilities — a common challenge among students who have chosen Nash. The generous contributions from members of the community allowed me to achieve my goal to become a nurse, and there are not sufficient words to explain my gratitude.”

In addition to the scholarship program, there are many ways in which donors can be an important part of the new Continuing Education and Public Services building opening this spring. Contributions will be used to provide state-of-the-art equipment and instructional support. Building, classroom and lab naming opportunities exist to help the College further address the complex demands of a modern workforce.

Prior to graduation, a 2014 NCC alumnus shared, “It is a true honor to go to a good community college where instructors teach you a valuable lesson: how to succeed in life. I have always wanted to work in electronics, and I have learned about everything from fiber optics and lasers to programming industrial robots and Programmable Logic Controllers. Thanks again for the award and helping me with my goal of graduation.”Top of Form
