West Mount Ruritan Club and Duke K.I.D.S. Name Lobby at NCC

A lobby on the first floor of the NCC Continuing Education and Public Services Building, set to open this year, will be named in honor of contributions to the College by West Mount Ruritan Club and Duke K.I.D.S. (Kids In Desperate Situations).  Nash Community College was one of the beneficiaries from last year’s Duke K.I.D.S. Golf Classic, sponsored annually by the Club to raise money for Duke Children’s Hospital.  Donations from the event to the College were to aid in the education and training of current and future EMS and Nursing students.

Wayne Outlaw and Tommy Armstrong, two of West Mount’s members, both have personal ties to Duke Children’s Hospital which were the basis for creating the Duke K.I.D.S. Golf Classic back in 2010. As a result of the 2014 Tournament held at Belmont Lake Golf Club, Nash Community College and Duke Children’s Hospital were gifted $14,000.  Outlaw’s grandson, Bayden, underwent a kidney transplant at the age of two at Duke Children’s Hospital.  Now age twelve, Bayden continues to receive care from the facility but lives a vibrant life. Armstrong’s son, Connor, also receives regular treatment from Duke for his battle with mitochondrial disease. With over 12,000 students enrolling in curriculum and continuing education courses annually at Nash Community College, Outlaw, Armstrong and other members of West Mount Ruritan understand the importance of supporting the College and its students; especially those who will soon utilize the educational resources available via the imminent Continuing Education and Public Services Building.

“We know God is still in the miracle business, because our family lives with a miracle everyday,” Outlaw stated in reference to his grandson, Bayden’s journey.  This statement of faith has been extended to Nash Community College through past and continued support from West Mount Ruritan Club and its non-profit, Duke K.I.D.S. May each student to pass through the West Mount Ruritan Club and Duke K.I.D.S. Lobby be reminded of the faith demonstrated by its namesakes in support of his or her educational future.
