NCC to Host Internationally Renowned Human Aggression and Violence Expert

Lt. Col. Dave Grossman

Nash Community College will welcome Lt. Col. Dave Grossman to present “The Bullet Proof Mind” for public safety personnel on Monday, August 3, 2015 from 8:00 AM until 5:00 PM in the College’s Business and Industry Center. The course is free to most individuals already serving in law enforcement, fire, rescue, and criminal justice professions and will address the mental preparation and strategies required for first responders to use in their daily duties. Grossman will cover safety, public perception, and more during the course which is restricted to public safety employees and volunteers. Internationally recognized as a scholar, author, soldier, and speaker, Lt. Col. Grossman is one of the world’s foremost experts in the field of human aggression and the roots of violence and violent crime. He is well-known as the founder of a new field of scientific endeavor referred to as “killology.” A former West Point psychology professor, Professor of Military Science, and an Army Ranger, Grossman has made revolutionary new contributions to the understanding of killing in war, the psychological costs of war, the causes of the current prevalence of violent crime, and the process of healing for victims of violence.

Grossman has helped train mental health professionals following various shootings occurring at universities and schools throughout the United States. Lt. Col. Grossman is a member of the American Board for Certification in Homeland Security and the American College of Forensic Examiners Institute. He was selected to write the entry on “Aggression and Violence” in the Oxford Companion to American Military History, and has published three entries in the Academic Press Encyclopedia of Violence and numerous articles in scholarly journals, including Harvard Journal of Law and Public Policy. He has presented to national audiences including the American Medical Association, the American Psychiatric Association, the American Psychological Association, and the American Academy of Pediatrics, presented at over 100 different colleges and universities worldwide, and has been an expert witness and consultant in state and Federal courts.

His book, titled On Killing, has been translated into Japanese, Korean, and German, is on the U.S. Marine Corps Commandant’s required reading list and is required reading at the FBI academy and numerous other academies and colleges. Grossman co-authored Stop Teaching Our Kids to Kill: A Call to Action Against TV, Movie and Video Game Violence, which has received international acclaim. His most recent book, On Combat, also placed on the U.S. Marine Corps Commandant’s Required Reading List.
