Nash Community College has announced the naming of the Peggie T. Moore Culinary Arts Wing in the College’s Business & Industry Center. The naming is in recognition of longtime supporters of Nash Community College and advocates for the community college system, J. Edgar and Peggie T. Moore of Rocky Mount.

The Moores established an endowed chair in 2009 to honor NCC culinary faculty and their commitment to exemplary teaching and excellence in the classroom. The Peggie Thigpen Moore Endowed Chair for Culinary Arts serves as a permanent legacy to Peggie Moore’s epicurean passion. The goal of the endowment is to provide discretionary funds to be used by the Business Department Chair to assist with the culinary arts program’s instructional and equipment needs.

In addition to the endowed chair, the Moores established the J. Edgar and Peggie T. Moore Excellence in Teaching Award in 1997 and Staff Award in 2004. The two annual awards recognize a faculty and staff member for their superior service and dedication as selected by their peers.

“Many hard working students have benefitted from the Moores’ philanthropic endeavors. Deserving faculty and staff have been rewarded and encouraged in their efforts as they help prepare students for lifelong success,” NCC President Dr. Bill Carver said.

Mr. Moore is a former President of the North Carolina Association of Community College Trustees. He also served as a member of the NCC Board of Trustees from 1990 until 2002 with two terms as board chair. Mr. Moore currently serves on the NCC Foundation Board of Directors. Mrs. Moore values the education of the community and has been a stalwart supporter of Nash Community College by promoting the activities of the college and attending college functions throughout the years.

Ed and Peggie Moore received the NCC President’s Cup in 2007 which is the college’s highest and most prestigious award and was given to the Moores in recognition of their outstanding support and leadership which has made an indelible mark on the college.
