NCC Celebrates Expansion of Early College High School
The Nash Community College campus celebrated the expansion of the Nash-Rocky Mount Early College High School at a ribbon cutting ceremony held Friday, February 15, 2019.
The Early College High School is located in the back of NCC’s campus in Building C. Renovations began when the College’s Advanced Manufacturing and Cosmetology programs moved out the building and into two new buildings located on the south end of campus. The expansion was made possible through North Carolinians’ support of the ConnectNC bond.
President Dr. Bill Carver recalled the Early College’s humble beginnings on NCC’s campus. “The mobile units were thought to be temporary but NCC took a chance. A chance – not a leap – because Nash-Rocky Mount Public Schools, our longtime partner, was the tip of the spear identifying students for a new way to attend high school – earning a high school and college credential together. There was no manual; we just did what was good for students.”
Early College students take a combination of high school and college courses, and upon successful completion, graduate with a high school diploma and either a Nash Community College Associate Degree or two years of college credit transferable to a four-year institution.
“I would like to thank Dr. Jefferies and the Nash-Rocky Mount Public School System’s Board of Education for the investment represented here,” Carver said. “Students, this was done for you. Remember to make it count. Winston Churchhill said we shape our buildings, and then our buildings shape us. Graduates from the Early College have a proud history of success.”
Following the ribbon cutting ceremony, a tour was given of the remodeled facility.
Nash Community College Board Chair Paul Jaber thanked attendees for their support. “Today represents a major investment in this combined partnership. We are excited about the re-purposing of this asset,” Jaber said.
