NCC President Honored with Order of the Long Leaf Pine
Nash Community College President, William S. Carver, II, Ed.D. has been awarded the Order of the Long Leaf Pine, one of the state’s most prestigious civilian honors. The announcement was made by Nash Community College Board Chair, Paul Jaber, during the College’s Employee Recognition Ceremony held Thursday, September 26.
“As Board Chair and on behalf of the Board of Trustees, we see the fruit of Dr. Carver’s efforts as Nash Community College continues to grow to meet the needs of local citizens, business and industry,” Jaber said. “The College is an active contributor to work force recruitment, development and training because of Dr. Carver’s dedicated, strategic efforts. NCC specializes in training that is customized for the many industries and businesses who have operated in this state for many years.”
Following a thorough application process, and approval by the governor, The Order of the Long Leaf Pine is presented to individuals who have a proven record of extraordinary service to the state including contributions to their communities, distinguished effort in their careers, and many years of service to their organizations.
The Order of the Long Leaf Pine may be awarded to an individual with more than 30 years of dedicated and enthusiastic service to the state of North Carolina. The Order is a symbolic way to honor dignitaries and notable North Carolinians.
Earlier this year, Dr. Carver announced his retirement. His tenure includes 32 years in education with the last 14 years as NCC President. During his career, he has accomplished or surpassed milestones: yearly enrollment increases, success in curriculum and transfer degree programs, many awards and recognition of the school, staff and himself, statewide recognition and much more. Carver is known as a trailblazer in the North Carolina Community College System setting a precedent for other leaders in higher education.
“It is with great excitement that we celebrate with Dr. Carver for this honorable recognition for a career devoted to improving access to higher education and his commitment to academic success and the future prosperity of our community, region and state,” Jaber said.
“Every day community college graduates respond, aid, manufacture, or repair the complicated enterprises that make up North Carolina’s economy. The impact Dr. Carver has made during his career is truly immeasurable. He has built a campus culture that nurtures NCC students as they prepare to become graduates and make an impact on the economic prosperity of our community, and will continue to do so for generations to come.”
Nash Community College is playing an important role in work force development for present and future businesses who are recruiting personnel for today and tomorrow. Through Dr. Carver’s leadership, NCC supports employers and is at the forefront of creating recruitment and training opportunity for these careers.
“Dr. Carver will be greatly missed, but he is leaving Nash Community College with the highest levels in academics, growth, and student, faculty and staff team culture, strategically poised for future growth and response to regional needs.”
